Time to simplify the delivery process
ABB had been using standard tongue and hitch tugger trains to deliver materials throughout their facility. They noticed that trying to integrate shelf carts and pallet dollies into the same train hadn’t brought the desired efficiency improvements. Because ABB was already using FlexQube shelf carts, the option to re-designing and re-building the carts was an easy decision to make.
The Loading & Unloading
To solve the issue of loading and unloading, it was decided to move away from a standard tongue and hitch tugger train system. Working alongside FlexQube, the LiftRunner frames were highlighted as an option to improve loading times. The FlexQube concept made this much easier as well because our concept allows for our carts to have tow bars removed retroactively.
In the end, the LiftRunner Euro B-Frame was chosen. Because of its ability to load and unload from both sides of the tugger train. This made designing the tugger train routes and actual delivery much more straightforward. To go alongside the frames, the original shelf carts were re-designed into pallet dollies with an attached steel flat deck.
